Portion Sizes

Size does matter!

"Where no portion is indicated, you can eat as much as you like.
Eat until you are satisfied, not stuffed."

You dont HAVE to count carbs or calories on the Scarsdale diet, although they DO count.

Track your calories, carbohydrate and protein intake on www.fitday.com

Eat consciously, not sitting in front of the television or computer.

Estimate "Proper Portions" with these comparisons:
meat/poultry/fish portions - the size and thickness of your palm
1 oz hard cheese - length & width of your thumb
medium fruit - the size of your fist = 4-6oz.
.5 cup veggie or pasta - one cupped hand
1 cup raw spinach or tossed salad - two cupped hands

Eating too much protein can make you gain weight, as the body will only use what it needs and store the rest as fat!

"No need to weigh food. You are to eat until you are full and NO MORE! Sticking exactly to the plan works. Why? I believe it is because now my body is getting the protein and nutrients it has always craved. Before when I felt hungry I would eat carbs to satisfy the hunger. The problem with that is, the carbs fill your belly but your body is wanting real food, like vegetables and protein instead of the empty calories found in high fat and high carb foods.
I believe that is why people can eat and eat and never get satisfied, their body is not getting what it really needs". - Debbie

...chew,chew,chew! Try to take 20 minutes to eat each meal, even if
its just toast and half a grapefruit with coffee.
Then, after that time, if you still feel hungry, you can have more of what you desire, but I guarantee it wont be as much as you'd usually eat.

Don't forget to allow at least two hours in between meals, and
take advantage of the carrots and celery to snack on!!
